Bita Lake, Potatso National Park
Bita (Bitahai) Lake is the highest alpine lake in Yunnan Province, located over 3,500 meters above sea level in Potatso National Park, Shangri-La. Covering about 159 hectares, it is known for its clear blue water, scenic mountain surroundings, and a central islet covered in rare plants. Often called “A Pearl on the Plateau,” the lake is rich in local legends and natural beauty. Each summer, rhododendron petals fall into the water, creating the iconic scene of “drunken fish” floating upside down after eating the mildly toxic petals. Bitahai is not only visually stunning but also a place full of cultural stories and natural wonder.
